THE MAGIC OF LETTER ART EXPOSES THE EXPERTS

Armenia, Israel, Holland, and then again back to Armenia. The painter, designer Ruben Malayan’s research was endless, searching of calligraphy material. Today the seminar organized at the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia was dedicated to the letter art.

Designers Ruben Malayan, graphic designers Jan Mikhalovsky and Thomas Junker from Poland and Germany within the framework of Erasmus + program, were invited to conduct “The magic of letter art” seminar.

Gagik Galstyan, the Rector of NUACA, welcomed the specialists and participants of the training and thanked them for participating in such an event. After a little preface to organizing the seminar, the Dean of the Faculty of Design Armen Bubushyan called the meeting if not unprecedented then very interesting, from the point of view that the annotation notes are almost absent.

“The calligraphy makes the brain to think three-dimensional, continuing,” starting his lecture mentioned  R. Malayan and underlined that while studying the letter art, it is necessary to clearly distinguish miniature painting from calligraphy. In his words, if the miniature painting functions is to decorate the letters, then the calligraphy function is to emphasis the structure and the plasticity of the letters.

According to Malayan, the handwriting of the manuscript has individuality and much more energy than the print one. “The beautiful scripture always symbolizes the manifestation of thoughts, emotions, illustrative and aesthetic views.”

It was obvious from the students’ perspectives that the interest towards art is new, but it’s already great. At the end of the seminar, all participants received certificates of attendance.
