University with a 100-Year History
The findings of the study of historical heritage of “Kumayri” Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, carried out in Gyumri by the coordination of the RA Urban Development Committee, were summarized. With the joint initiative of the Urban Development Committee and the Asian Development Bank, Italian experts, with the engagement of students from National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia, as well as Gyumri branch of State Academy of Fine Arts of Armenia, carried out a study in Gyumri aimed at developing a methodology within the framework of zoning the Museum-Reserve. The findings of joint activities during the ten-day workshop, organized by the Committee, were presented at National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia with the participation of the Deputy Chairperson of Urban Development Committee, Vice-Rector of the University, the representative of the Embassy of the Italian Republic in Armenia and the academic staff. The representatives of Gyumri branch of State Academy of Fine Arts of Armenia joined the event through a video conference.
Based on a questionnaire, developed by the Italian experts, the students collected data on the insufficiently studied sections of the Museum-Reserve, and clarified the issues to be solved. The next step was the development of proposals on the restoration and reuse of the architectural environment of the Museum-Reserve, by preserving its historical and cultural value. Experts from Polytechnic University of Milan stated that special attention would be paid to working with the population to raise their awareness of the importance of living in buildings of historical value and the responsibility that comes with it.
During the event, Nune Petrosyan, Deputy Chairperson of Urban Development Committee, emphasized that a unique state body-university-international expert cooperation had been established due to this program, pursuing the implementation of one common idea. The students, presenting their research, highlighted the approaches, provided by the experts in conducting architectural research.
After summarizing the findings, the participants of the workshop were awarded with certificates.
