A meeting-discussion dedicated to the Book Giving Day took place at NUACA, which was conducted by Doctor of Historical Sciences Hayk Demoyan. The main topic of the Event was “Armenian Churches and Monasteries in International Postcards (Late 19th Century – Early 20th Century)”, which gave the participants the opportunity to discover unique pages of Armenian architecture reflected in ancient postcards.
Apart from the main topic, Hayk Demoyan also presented some of the books authored by him, told about the preconditions for their creation, the research process, and the collection of information. He emphasized that creation of a book is not merely a collection of historical facts but also the result of patient research, thorough analysis, and new discoveries.
During the discussion, the importance of book design and presentation formats was also addressed, taking into account the modern changes.
Speaking about the world of books, Hayk Demoyan noted: “On this special occasion, I congratulate everyone and would like to talk about the creation of my books. When there is a critical volume between knowledge and available new material, the idea of writing a book is born. Times are changing, but personally, I do not accept the idea of electronic books, as they can never replace the feeling and value of a real book. My personal library contains around 5,000 books, and I remember the story behind each one – where I bought it, when and under what circumstances. Times are changing, technology is advancing rapidly, yet the book remains alive playing an irreplaceable role in preserving cultural heritage.”
At the end of the Meeting, the participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with Mr. Demoyan’s books, examine his collections, and talk to the Author. The discussion turned into an active exchange of ideas, where the main topics were the preservation of reading culture, historical heritage, and architectural values.
