NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF ARCHITECTURE AND CONSTRUCTION OF ARMENIA

Head of NUACA Chair of Theory, History and Heritage of Architecture Emma Harutyunyan, lecturers Arev Samuelyan, Lyuba Kirakosyan and Lusine Mamyan, along with 5 students from the Faculty of Architecture, went on a business trip to the city of La Coruña, Kingdom of Spain to participate in the review-contest activities of Jacobus+2023 projects. The University academic staff left for Pontevedra to explore the project area for Jacobus+2024. Students carry out project works in one semester. The project is attended by students from 5 countries: Germany, Spain, Belgium, France and Armenia. They carry out the same project on the same topic.

The theme for 2023 was French. About 80 students studied the area in France for a week, discussed with the lecturers and carried out works, after which each group continued to conduct the works in their own country. Although the theme was French, the projects were defended in Spain according to the format of the programme.

One of the projects presented by the University, authored by students Davit Zalinyan and Karine Hakobyan, was included among the five winning projects.

After the defense of the projects, the students went to explore the area of Jacobus+2024, as according to the terms of the programme, the next year’s theme is about the country where the defense takes place. In the center of the historic old city there is an owned palace now being in a “bad” condition, detracting from the overall appearance of the city. The building does not perform any essential function, but is a landmark. The works will be carried out around that structure by the students in 2024.

At the end of the programme, Head of NUACA Chair of Theory, History and Heritage of Architecture, PhD in Architecture, Associate Professor, Academic Adviser of the Engineering Academy of Armenia, Professor Emma Harutyunyan suggested summarizing the 30^th anniversary of the Jacobus+ project in 2025 at NUACA, Armenia. Representatives of all five universities unanimously agreed on the suggestion.
