NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF ARCHITECTURE AND CONSTRUCTION OF ARMENIA
University with a 100-Year History
The 2020 Online Conference and the Presidents’ Forum of the Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium (BRAUIC) and Awarding Ceremony of the 2020 BRUAIC Building & Structure Student Design Competition was held online.
Due to the close cooperation between NUACA and Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, our University has been actively participating in the BELT AND ROAD initiative since 2017, which is organized and funded by the Government of the People’s Republic of China.
The 2020 Online Conference and the Presidents’ Forum of the Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium (BRAUIC) was chaired by Professor Zhang Ailin, President of Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture. The event was attended by members of the Beijing city authorities, Heads of leading universities in China, France, Russia, Great Britain, Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and representatives of organizations related to the sphere.
The conference was attended by Professor Yeghiazar Vardanyan, Acting Rector of the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia, Manuk Barseghyan, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs, Garnik Stepanyan, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, and Siranush Hovhannisyan, Head of the Center of Languages.
In his speech, Mr. Vardanyan greeted all the attendees and thanked the organizers of the event for the invitation. On behalf of the entire staff and students of the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia, he extended his gratitude to the entire staff and President of Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Professor Zhang Ailin, for his support to our University and the entire Armenian nation related to the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.
Mr. Vardanyan mentioned the great importance of continuous and mutually beneficial cooperation between the member universities of The Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium (BRAUIC), paying special attention to “Building A Community of Architectural Education Along the Belt and Road.”
In order to make the cooperation more substantive and effective, Acting Rector Yeghiazar Vardanyan suggested organizing and holding international competition-reviews, as well as encouraging exchanges of academic staff and students within the framework of other international educational programmes. Given China’s rich experience in the field of seismic construction, it was suggested conducting joint scientific-experimental research with the participation of Armenian specialists. Mr. Vardanyan highlighted the importance of introducing mechanisms to make the access to e-libraries in partner universities available for the students
and the academic staff and made reference to establishing cooperation in the field of composing, researching and applying modern construction materials, as well as designing “green cities”.
Then, Awarding Ceremony of the 2020 BRUAIC Building & Structure Student Design Competition organized within the framework of the The 2020 Online Conference and the Presidents’ Forum was held. In the “Architectural Design” category, Vahram Aghajanyan and Lernik Galstyan’s (NUACA students of the Faculty of Architecture) project “Concept of Revalorization of Mkhitaryan Monastery Library on St. Lazarus Island”, was awarded a diploma (supervisors: Professor Artyom Aloyan, Associate Professor Hovhannes Sanamyan). In the “Constructive Design” category of the same competition, Marietta Gevorgyan’s (NUACA student of the same faculty) project “Construction of a Hotel, a Bridge and a Multifunctional Complex in Jermuk” won the third prize and a monetary award (supervisor: Professor Hayk Asatryan).
