PRODUCTION PRACTICE IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE NORTH-SOUTH ROAD

At the joint initiative of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia, National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia, and the Italian company IRD Engineering, students of the C-39 group of NUACA Chair of “Roads and Bridges”underwent production practice from June 29 to July 3 in the construction of Tranche 4, Agarak-Vardanidzor section of the North-South Road Corridor.

During the practice, the students had the opportunity to get acquainted on-site with the application of road works technologies, the organization of work on the road section under construction, local and international regulatory requirements for quality assurance, as well as key processes of the project implementation.

Within the framework of the production practice, the students participated in a working discussion organized around the engineering solutions of the project, which involved representatives of the Engineer, Contractor and Design organizations. They also observed the installation of the girders of the bridge span structures, got acquainted with the principles of the “gate” crane, as well as visited the construction sites of two tunnels under construction, studying on-site the construction processes and the concreting of the tunnel lining using the sliding formwork technology.

During the practice, a number of training courses and professional discussions were also organized, dedicated to the peculiarities of road, bridge and tunnel construction, innovative technologies used in the field and international experience.

The lecture of a leading bridge engineer from IRD Engineering Fabrizio Colicino on the topic “Operation, Safety and Durability of Bridges” was noteworthy. During the course, the most important principles of bridge operation and maintenance were presented, as well as the reasons for the collapse of the Polchevera highway bridge in Genoa, Italy in 2018 and the engineering solutions for the newly built bridge were discussed.

Grigor Saryan, Deputy Head of the Construction Technical Supervision Program implemented by the Croatian Institut IGH organization, also conducted a professional training course for students. He presented the technologies used during the construction of roads, bridges, and tunnels, touched upon the peculiarities of construction processes, and answered professional questions of interest to students.
