NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF ARCHITECTURE AND CONSTRUCTION OF ARMENIA

University with a 100-Year History

WE HAD HONOR TO HOST THE WORLD-FAMOUS ARCHITECT MICHEL MOSESYAN

“Accept what I say as music, because architecture is a voice of harmony, a sense of rhythm, and only by feeling it is possible to understand what we have seen”

With these words, the world-famous French architect of Armenian origin, a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects, a lecturer at Harvard, Chicago and Pennsylvania universities Michel Mosesyan began his lecture at our university.

Winner of numerous international competitions Michel Mosesyan was born in Paris, got a professional education at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris and Master of Architecture at Harvard University. Founded by renowned Armenian architect, the project company “Mosesyan and Colleagues” is the author of several well-known projects in the world, including the reconstruction project for the center of the old city of Doha in Qatar, the new building of the NATO in Brussels and the project of the adjacent territory.

Perhaps one of the most characteristic and remarkable works of Michel Mosesyan’s company is the project of the Muslim Museum of the city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. The dean of the Faculty of Architecture Sarkis Tovmasyan, who was present at the lecture, recalled one episode, when in Istanbul, looking at the architect who had built the mosque, they asked the mayor why an Armenian was allowed to build a building. The mayor replied that if we exclude the works of Armenian architects from Istanbul, we will be shown little. Mr. Tovmasyan did not remember this story accidentally. Many students who attended the master class were worried about this question, why the Armenian architect is the author of the Muslim structure. “Architecture has no nationality, as does music,” explained Michel Mosesyan, revealing students the nuances of getting the right form and content using the example of world-famous architectural compositions.
