PHD IN TECHNICAL SCIENCES KRISTINE SAHAKYAN HAS BEEN APPOINTED AS THE ACTING HEAD OF THE GEB CHAIR

Lecturer at the Chair and PhD in Technical Sciences Kristine Sahakyan has been appointed as the Acting Head of the Chair of Geoecology and Biosafety.

Kristine Sahakyan received her Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Environmental Engineering at State Engineering University of Armenia. She also received her Master’s Degree in Engineering in the field of Environmental Protection in the same university, and in the Post-Graduate Department of the university under the same name, she received the qualification of an engineer researcher in the field of Environmental Protection. She defended her PhD thesis on “Development of Ecological Risk Assessment Methodology of Industrial Enterprises for the Purpose of Water Resources Protection”.

Mrs. Sahakyan is the author and co-author of a number of scientific articles and educational-methodical manuals. She has participated in national, regional and international seminars and conferences. She has managed national and regional projects, including, the  “Assistance in Safety Improvement of Tailings in Armenia and Georgia” regional program, “One Step Forward in the Direction of the Development of Green Economy in Armenia: Reflection Map of Green Growth Indicators for the RA Syunik Marz”, “Assistance to the Enrichment of Knowledge about Production Safety in the RA Universities”, “Assistance for Increasing Awareness and Readiness of the Population in theAffected Zone of Industrial Accidents” projects, etc.

As an environmental protection field specialist, she has implemented and participated in the environmental and social impact assessment processes of various design documents. She has been involved in various RA infrastructure, urban development (seismic safety improvement of schools, road construction), water (water supply, drainage, irrigation, reservoir construction) and other field projects, as well as in international projects, in particular, “Capacity Development to Improve Safety Conditions of Tailings Management Facilities in the Danube River Basin – Phase I: North-Eastern Danube Countries”, and “Strengthening the Safety of Mining Activities, in Particular Tailings in Kazakhstan and Beyond the Borders of Central Asia”.

Kristine Sahakyan has been active both in the public sector and in state government bodies, being the President of the “Ecology for Peaceful Coexistence” Scientific, Ecological NGO, working in the “Yerevan Urban Development Investment Programs Implementation Agency” CNPO, as well as occupying the position of head of the Department of Hazardous Substances and Waste Policy in the RA Ministry of Environment in 2021-2022. She is an expert of the RA Science Committee.
