Recently, a meeting initiated by the Urban Development Committee with specialists in the field was held at NUACA to discuss the RA Government’s initiative to develop strategies and jointly identify priorities in the field of Urban Development, which was also attended by representatives from Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan’s Office and the Central Bank of Armenia.
Within the framework of the development of the territorial and infrastructure development strategy, issues related to urban development and spatial planning, land management, infrastructure, and water systems were considered as a priority.
In his speech, the Chairman of the Urban Planning Committee Yeghiazar Vardanyan emphasized the importance of combining the efforts of specialists in order to develop an effective, feasible strategy. “Now is the time when we can develop an effective strategy together so that in the coming years we can have development and qualitative results in line with leading countries in the use of territory, infrastructure, and urban development, directing budget funds to clear targets.”
At the invitation of the Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan’s assistant Gevorg Sahakyan also participated in the Meeting. The latter presented the 6 strategic directions that the Government plans to develop in harmony with the doctrine of economic and institutional transformation of Armenia. Director of the Dilijan Training and Research Center of the Central Bank Gevorg Minasyan presented the vision of the economic transformation strategy.
Deputy Chairman of the Urban Development Committee Nune Petrosyan and Advisor to NUACA Rector Sargis Tomasyan presented the priorities and problems set by the main project for the resettlement of Armenia, considered the opportunities for the formation of a multi-center structure of the territory of the Republic of Armenia, and the development of clusters. It was noted that under the coordination of the Urban Development Committee, it is planned to develop a new master plan for the resettlement of the Republic of Armenia, which should be consistent with the logic of the strategy being developed.
The specialists of the Urban Development Committee, representatives of the Chamber of Architects of Armenia and the Armenian Association of Developers, as well as NUACA specialists and students, participating in the discussion, exchanged ideas and proposals in order to outline the main directions of the strategy.
It was noted that such meetings will be ongoing in order to jointly discuss all the proposals submitted and develop effective solutions. The Chairman of the Committee also called on students to be actively involved in the process, emphasizing their opinion and innovative thinking.
