REA ARCHITECTURE STUDENT WEEK BROUGHT STUDENTS AND SPECIALISTS FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRIES TOGETHER IN GYUMRI

The annual Student Week organized by the Network of Architecture Schools in France, Eastern and Central Europe (REA) and National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia took place in Gyumri from April 22 to May 3. 17 lecturers and 22 students from Armenia, Poland, France, and Ukraine participated in the Program.

The topic of this year was “Abandoned Urban Areas: The Border Between the Old and the New.” Student groups, collaborating with each other, carried out research and design work in Gyumri. The focus of the study was the modernist fountain “Water Elegy” by the People’s Architect of the Armenian SSR Arthur Tarkhanyan, the area of which was considered as the subject of student research.

The Program also included a lecture conference, design workshops, cognitive visits to historical and cultural sites, and meetings with internationally renowned architects.

The collaboration emphasizes the combination of diverse teaching approaches of architecture schools and contributes to the deepening of professional, cultural, and friendly connections.

The last time Armenia organized a REA Network Conference was in 2007 in Jermuk. The participation of NUACA in the Network contributes to the exchange of international experience and the strengthening of Armenian presence in the world architectural education field.
