PHD IN ARCHITECTURE ARTYOM ALOYAN PASSED AWAY

We are sorry to inform you that PhD in Architecture, Professor Artyom Albert Aloyan passed away, causing great pain and regret to his family, relatives, colleagues, students and everyone who knew him.

Thanks to his exceptional human qualities, profound professional knowledge, and polite attitude, he earned genuine love, respect, and admiration from everyone around him.

Years of dedicated hard work have rightfully rewarded him with a well-deserved reputation. The main directions of his activities were urban planning and architectural design, as well as the development of legislative and normative documents, urban cadastre, and fruitful scientific research.

Artyom Aloyan was born on August 18, 1952 in Yerevan. After receiving a Diploma of an Architect in 1974, he continued his postgraduate education in the Central Research and Design Institute (TsNIIP) in Moscow and received his PhD in Architecture. Since 1994, he taught at his alma mater, mentoring thousands of students, including many foreign students, on the difficult professional path of architecture. For many years he had been a member of the Scientific Council of National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia, a member of the Council of the Faculty of Architecture, and Deputy Head of the Chair of Theory, History and Heritage of Architecture.

The results of A. Aloyan’s fruitful work are the master plans of a number of residencies of the Republic of Armenia, among which the current master plan of Yerevan stands out.

The list of the author’s works is long: development of zoning projects of separate territories in Yerevan and construction sketches for priority construction (the territory adjacent to Tichina Street in Yerevan), zoning project and construction sketch of the International Complex of Public Works and Culture Yerevan-Berd (Yerevan City), zoning project and construction sketch of Kentron Administrative District of Yerevan, development of zoning projects of separate territories of Yerevan and construction sketches for priority construction, the territory adjacent to Mars Factory (Mars  Technopolis), sketching project of site landscaping envisaged in the master plan of Yerevan, zoning project and construction sketch of the territory of Davtashen Administrative District, zoning project and construction sketch of the territory of Erebuni Administrative District, and so on. A. Aloyan is the author of more than 100 project and scientific works, among which we can particularly single out: the Territorial Planning Project of the RA, the Resettlement Plan of the RA, the master plans of Yerevan, Gyumri, Europolis and other cities, zoning and building projects of the center and other administrative districts of Yerevan, technical and working projects of individual buildings, complexes, as well as interior design. The works were exhibited at the Venice Biennale and were awarded with Certificates and Orders of Honour of Engineering Academy of Armenia and Yerevan Municipality.

Distinguished as a highly qualified and impartial specialist, A. Aloyan was always included in state and other professionally responsible committees and councils: in 1992 – Member of the Expert Council of the Committee “Urban Planning, Architecture, and Construction” of the RA Ministry of Education and Science, in 1992 – Member of the Urban Development Council of the RA Ministry of Urban Development, in 1995 – Member of the Urban Development Licensing Committee of the RA Ministry of Urban Development, in 2011 – Member of the “Urban Development” Committee of the Armenian Union of Architects, in 2011 – Expert in the fields of “Architecture, Urban Development and Construction” of the State Science Committee of the RA Ministry of Education and Science, in 2013 – Member of the “Education and Science” Committee of the Armenian Union of Architects, etc., since 1983 – a member of the Armenian Union of Architects, and since 2010 –  a full member of the Engineering Academy of Armenia.

In 2012, he was awarded with “Artur Tarkhanyan”, and in 2019, with “Alexander Tamanyan” gold medals.

Artyom Albert Aloyan was a unique person and a great patriot. His devotion to our country and its future was expressed both in his professional activities and in the activities of the new generation of architects he educated.

The memorial service will take place on Monday, October 16, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at “Erebuni,” mourning hall (address: 2/14, Khaghagh Don Street).

The funeral will take place on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Arin Berd Cemetery.
