University with a 100-Year History
Founded in the 17th century, Kond district is home to the oldest houses in Yerevan, the existence of which is now under threat by real estate players. Emphasizing the importance of preserving this heritage, the Embassy of France and the Goethe-Institute, in cooperation with the Urban Development Committee, National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia, non-governmental organizations and cultural operators, present a series of cultural and scientific events within the framework of the “KONDense” Festival from July 5-11, 2021.
NUACA has been part of the activities and discussions related to Kond for many years and this year it is actively participating in the Festival. While the roots of cooperation of the University with our friendly country – France, dates back to the 1990s. Within the framework of this cooperation, a number of educational, scientific, research programs, exchanges of academic staff and students, master classes, conferences, seminars and thesis defense were jointly carried out. The area of joint programs includes the field of urban development.
V. Yedoyan, NUACA Vice-Rector for International Relations, presented a speech at the opening ceremony of “Intersecting Views: Kond Projects and Prospects” joint program․ Mr. Yedoyan spoke on behalf of NUACA Rector Y. Vardanyan, greeted the attendees, by emphasizing the importance of the initiative. The aim of the event is to contribute to the preservation and restoration of the historical-architectural heritage. NUACA students participate in the program with joint projects, aimed at introducing new architectural and thematic approaches to historical-architectural monuments.
“Intersecting Views: Kond Projects and Prospects” joint program is implemented in three directions: educational, scientific and research. This initiative is a wonderful opportunity to value our historical and cultural heritage, to exchange ideas on the development peculiarities of the historical Kond district of Yerevan, to consolidate the University potential for the architectural solutions of the important urban development nodes of the capital city.
