NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF ARCHITECTURE AND CONSTRUCTION OF ARMENIA

In the framework of Francophone bimonthly events NUACA hosted the presentation of a contest on “Revitalization of the Historical Environment Via Harmonizing the New and Old” (IACOBUS) on March 24 by two young French architects-Astrid Dyuma and Fantin Pengo who are at NUACA for their academic practices.

IACOBUS contest was launched in 1995 and this year it was the 22^nd competition. According to contest rules the diploma projects are implemented in one country but the defense is realized in another country.

IACOBUS project participants were from the Coruna University of Spain, Regensburg University of Germany, Clermont Ferran University of France and NUACA MA degree second year students. Projects prepared by students were their graduation works.

According to Astrid Dyuma and Fantin Pengo’s project the premise of the historical prison located in the city center should be restructured by newer solutions including a café, a SPA center and entertainment area. Their project is aimed at preservation of historical and cultural memories and heritage by the harmonization of the old and new as the project is also aimed at intercultural exchange and conservation of cultural values.

The presentation was summed up with active question and answer session, which proved once again that the subject was interesting for the NUACA faculty, students and the guests of the meeting.
