On the occasion of World Water Day, a seminar was held at NUACA, dedicated to water conservation and raising awareness of global water issues.
World Water Day, which is designed to draw public attention to the state of freshwater and related issues, especially in the context of restoration and conservation, has been celebrated since 1993 at the initiative of the United Nations. It aims to raise awareness about the importance of water and promote sustainable management of water resources.
Around 2.2 billion people worldwide lack access to safe water, and women and girls often bear the brunt of water crises.
This year’s theme, “Where Water Flows, Equality Grows,” emphasizes that providing safe water and sanitation improves the quality of life for women and girls, ensuring health, security, and new opportunities.
The event was organized by the EMTS Chair, Director of the Geological Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia Gayane Grigoryan, President of the National Water Partnership Scientific and Ecological NGO Arevik Hovsepyan, and Director of the Derenik Demirchyan House-Museum Karine Rafaelyan, . The event was attended by students and specialists in the field.
During the Seminar, President of the “National Water Partnership” Scientific and Ecological NGO Arevik Hovsepyan, presented the importance of water resource conservation and effective management, emphasizing the need for public involvement.
Director of the Geological Museum Gayane Grigoryan spoke about the ecological problems of hydrogeological monuments, presenting the urgency of their conservation and the challenges in the field.
During the Event, it was also emphasized that in the future, student participation in international ecological holidays should be more actively encouraged through student conferences, thematic exhibitions, scientific and educational campaigns and scientific and educational and cultural events. These initiatives aim to raise public awareness of environmental protection.
The topics discussed will serve as the basis for organizing a workshop entitled “The Earth is My Home” in the near future.
One of the important aims of the Event was also to emphasize the role of women in solving water problems and in the decision-making process, considering them not only as users, but also as leaders.
