NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF ARCHITECTURE AND CONSTRUCTION OF ARMENIA

University with a 100-Year History

DO YOU KNOW THE MARIONNETTIST OF OUR UNIVERSITY?

Imagine for a moment Qaj Nazar, Don Quixote and the princess together. Do not you believe it? Therefore, it means that you have not seen puppets made by Irina Vanyan, Chief Specialist of the Quality Assurance Center at our University.

Irina Vanyan did not want to talk about her hobby. At first, she hesitated a little: she is a lecture: isn’t it inappropriate? However, after a short conversation, the favorite theme completely engulfed and moved us to her creative world, on the planet of dolls.

The love for handmade dolls was born from his childhood. She remembers: “I was cutting my mother’s dress to make clothes for my doll”. Thus, over the years, the hobby has turned into activity. Then the characters of the tales, the representatives of different nations living in peace side-by-side, dolls with red cheeks, exhibitions followed one another.

There is an important principle in this fairy tale that my puppet hero never breaks. She says if you want a doll to succeed, you have to dedicate it. She dedicated them to all, who admire them, who are still younger in spirit, for whom the dolls are an art piece.

The dolls have different themes for different exhibitions, from the old Armenian to the silver age fashion. She also revived the characters of the Beaumarchais “The Marriage of Figaro” comedy.

In the hands of Irina Vanyan, every material is converted into puppets, whether it is clay, cloth, thread, paper or even waste.

Now, dolls embodying Spanish heroes set off to Valencia to be exposed to the center of the Armenian-Spanish friendship.

Moreover, at the Museum of History of the City of Yerevan, until March 5, all doll lovers can admire the dolls in the “Winter Fairy Tale” exhibition prepared for the magic night of New Year’s Day.
