“DIGITALLY CONNECTING OF REAL AND VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENTS” (DEVISION) INTERNATIONAL PROJECT FINISHED

The  “Digitally Connecting Real and Virtual Environments” (DEVision) international project of the Austrian Development Agency, launched on March 1, 2022, was successfully concluded in the spring of 2025. By NUACA, the Project was coordinated by the Chair of Engineering Geodesy, involving the academic staff and students. Representatives of the University of Salzburg, Yerevan State University, and the Kyrgyz State University of Construction, Transportation and Architecture were also involved in the Project.

The DEVision project aimed to develop and implement online and blended learning modules based on Geoinformation Systems (GIS) in the curricula of the Universities using a combined approach, initially focusing on the concept of the “Digital Earth” and global trends in digital transformation.

Among the important stages of the process, 5 educational modules introduced in the “Geodesy and Cadastre” academic programme of the Geomatics specialty can be singled out.

On October 27-29, 2023, NUACA hosted representatives of all partner universities who participated in a three-day meeting in Yerevan, discussing the final development of the modules and management issues of the Project .

Within the framework of the Project, an open competition for a graduate/postgraduate scholarship to study at the University of Salzburg was announced, in which NUACA and YSU students and employees participated. The scholarship was won by a postgraduate student of the “Geodesy and Cadastre” academic programme.

In addition, with the financial support of the Project, a postgraduate student traveled to the University of Paris-Lodron in Salzburg to conduct research for 1.5 months.

For about a year and a half, the Chair of Engineering Geodesy has conducted training courses within the framework of continuing education, in which both University students and employees, as well as representatives of external stakeholder organizations and individuals, who received relevant certificates after successfully completing the courses participated.

One of the final and lasting results of the Project is the creation and publication of video courses on ArcGIS Pro in Armenian. The video courses are already available on NUACA official website as open learning resources and represent a practical package for teaching the basics of ArcGIS Pro, including theoretical explanations, real-life examples, and step-by-step guides. They are intended for both students and specialists in the field as a tool for self-study, training, and professional development.

➤ In addition to the video courses, the “Spatial Data Management” educational-methodical manual was developed and submitted for publication.

➤ During the Project, NUACA lecturers paid two working visits to the University of Paris-Lodron in Salzburg to discuss ways of cooperation and participate in the exchange of experience.
➤ Representatives of the Chair also participated in the annual GISCA Conference, within the framework of which they presented the results of the DEVision project and published a scientific article.

The DEVision project combined international experience, innovative educational approaches and applied results-based development. Due to the Project, the “Geodesy and Cadastre” academic programme was enriched with new modules on Geoinformation technologies and trained specialists, awareness of Geoinformation systems (GIS) in other fields was raised, international academic cooperation was expanded, and a database of applicable and continuous educational resources was formed.

The courses developed during the Project will continue to operate in NUACA educational environment, and the ArcGIS video courses will also provide an opportunity to ensure the professional development of beneficiaries outside the field.
