NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF ARCHITECTURE AND CONSTRUCTION OF ARMENIA

A 3-day charrette entitled “Breaking the Inertia of Design: Interdisciplinary Journey” was held at National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia. The aim of the event was for the students of the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of  Design to explore the opportunities of alternative design methodology and demonstrate the use of interdisciplinary connections through a practical course. 

The charrette was conducted by architect and fashion designer Vicken Derderian.

At the beginning of the meeting the co-founder of the Open Studio and a lecturer at the Faculty of Design Lilit Umedyan extended her gratitude to the University management for giving such an opportunity and supporting the “Open Studio”, noting that more than 20 joint lectures and master classes had already been held. Ms. Umedyan also thanked the Student Council for assisting in all organizational matters.

During the three days of the charrette, Vicken Derderian showed the deep interdisciplinary connections of architecture and design, which have found their unique expressions in his works. Through practical work, using an interesting and creative methodology, the students brought out the idea collection process proposed by Mr. Derderian and talked about the sources of inspiration.

The three days of the charrette were spent in a close and warm atmosphere. Students had the opportunity to show their own works. Mr. Derderian gladly answered all the questions and gave valuable advice to future specialists.
