THE SPECIALTY PROGRAMMES, EXAM TASKS AND ASSESSMENT CRITERIA OF THE INTRA-UNIVERSITY EXAM SUBJECTS

Dear applicants,

We present the specialty programmes, exam tasks and assessment criteria of the intra-University exam subjects “Drawing” and “Sketch Drawing” for the admission to National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia for the 2022-2023 academic year (according to undergraduate and continuing and integrated academic programmes).

SPECIALTIES

073101.00.6 – “Architecture”

021201.00.6 – “Design”

 Syllabi and assessment criteria for the entrance exams of the subjects “Drawing” and “Sketch Drawing” for the above mentioned specialties:

 SKETCH DRAWING

The exam of the subject “Sketch Drawing” is aimed at testing the applicants’ ability to perform graphic works, and the level of volumetric spatial perception and portrayal. The exam cards include two sections: projective drawing and geometric construction problems, which cover the following topics:

  • Projection methods, rectangular and parallel projections,
  • Rules for constructing complex drawings and axonometric projections of geometric figures,
  • Standard rules for the formation of drawings,
  • The basic issues of geometric construction. Construction of coupling and planar circumferences,
  • Sections and cuts.

The tasks and seats of the applicants are selected by lot. The duration of the exam is 4 hours (240 minutes). The task is performed on A2 size drawing paper.

The exam cards include the following two tasks:

  • Two projections of the body with extractions and sections are given. It is required to build its third projection and axonometry, giving all the necessary cuts.
  • Construct the proposed planar circumference, which includes coupling problems.

THE ASSESSMENT CRITERIA OF THE TASK

The first task is divided into components and assessed in the following way:

  • Construction of the proposed projections with cuts – 4 (four) points;
  • Construction of the missing projection with a cut – 4 (four) points;
  • Construction of axonometry with extraction – 6 (six) points;
  • The second task is divided into the following components: coupling problems – 4 (four) points, dimensioning – 1 (one) point;
  • For maintaining the quality and standards of the graphic execution of the general work – 1 (one) point (total: 20 points).

 Pre-coded exam works are checked and graded by all members of the Committee. 8.0 or higher points are considered positive (according to the RA Government Decision N 476-Ն dated April 7, 2022). Assessment points are given preserving the decimal part and the averaged.

Total: 20 points.

  1. DRAWING (ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN)

The exam of the subject “Drawing” is aimed at testing the applicants’ capacities of volumetric spatial perception and portrayal, as well as performance techniques. The examination requirements for the performance of the drawing task are as follows:

DRAWING

073101.00.6 “Architecture” specialty applicants draw plaster heads (Gattamelata, Socrates, Homer) based on Form 1.

021201.00.6  “Design” specialty applicants drawstill life made from household (geometric) objects (jug, amphora, decor items, fabric, as well as grape leaves, plant decor and one of the three apple bas-reliefs) according to Form 2.

Plaster heads and bas-reliefs are selected by lot.

The seats of the applicants, according to the numbered places, are selected by lot.

The duration of the exam is 8 hours (240 minutes + 60 minutes break + 240 minutes).

The task is performed on A2 size drawing paper (Whatman) with graphite black pencils of different hardness.

The exam task includes the following components:

  • Correct selection of the key position of the working paper,
  • Correct placement and construction of the portrait and still life objects on paper,
  • Solution of construction problems, taking into account the proportions and scale accuracy of the form making of objects,
  • Correct execution of the lights and shadows, volumetric processing and quality assurance of the image,
  • Reproduction of tonality and materiality: perfection of methods and technique,
  • Completion of full work with competent use of the material within the prescribed period.

Assessment Criteria of the Task

  1. Optimal size and placement of plaster head or still life on A2 size paper – 0-5 points.
  2. Proportions and construction of plaster head and still life – 0-5 points.
  3. Graphic and technical skills of the drawing – 0-5 points.
  4. The skill of volumetric perception of objects and expression of material by processing light and shadow – 0-5 points.

Pre-coded exam works are checked and graded by all members of the Committee individually and then are averaged.

8.0 or higher points are considered positive (according to the RA Government Decision N 476-Ն dated April 7, 2022). Assessment points are given preserving the decimal part.

Total: 20 points.
