NEW CONTEST INTENDED FOR PROGRESS OF WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP IN SCIENCE

For the first time, the Science Committee of the Republic of Armenia within the framework of scientific and scientific-technical contractual (thematic) activities funding runs a contest for the selection of scientific topics under the heading of the progress of women’s leadership.

Although Armenia has good indicators concerning women’s participation in science (based on 2019 data, more than 52 per cent of the overall number of employees of the organizations performing scientific and scientific-technical activities in the Republic of Armenia are women, whereas the global rate is below 30 per cent), only about 25 per cent of leaders of scientific groups and topics funded by the Science Committee are women. The new contest aims to bridge this gap based on the RA Government decision N 1334-L made on September 19, 2019, approving “RA Gender Policy Strategic Program 2019-2023” as well as the decree N 59-Ա/2 of January 29, 2020, of RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport approvingRoadmap for Integration of Research and Development Sphere of the Republic of Armenia into the European Research Area” on the defined priorities.

In case of not meeting the requirement, the latter will impact the expert assessment of the scientific topic submitted by the group members in the future contest programs announced by the committee.
