FACULTY OF URBAN ECONOMY AND ECOLOGY

The the Faculty of Urban Economy and Ecology was established within National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia in 2014, including the following specialties:

  • Urban economy and Heat and Gas Supply,
  • Transportation and Road Traffic Management and Control,
  • Real Estate Expertise and Management,
  • Safety in Emergency Situations,
  • Environmental Protection and Efficient Use of Natural Resources (by fields),
  • Environmental Expertise,
  • Translation Studies (technical translation) English and Armenian,
  • Translation Studies (technical translation) Russian and Armenian.

 

Currently, the Faculty provides full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate studies in the following specialties and academic programmes:

  • Geomatics,
  • Heat and Gas Supply and Ventilation,
  • Transport Systems,
  • Tourism,
  •  

About 350 students major in five specialties at the Faculty of Urban Economy and Ecology, 310 of which in undergraduate studies and 40 in graduate studies. There are 4 post-graduate students studying in postgraduate studies, 1 of which is an applicant and 2 are doctoral students.

The Faculty of Urban Economy and Ecology has 3 Chairs:

120 lecturers teach in the issuing Chairs of the Faculty, including 17 Doctors in Science and 47 PhDs in Science.

During its activities, the Faculty, within the framework of the contracts and agreements signed by the University with foreign universities, has established close connections with Rostov State Construction and Southern Federal Universities, Technical University of Ostrava in the Czech Republic, Georgian Technical University, Moscow State University of Civil Engineering, Russian State University of Oil and Gas named after I. M. Gubkin, and Georg-August-University Göttingen, as evidenced by mutual visits of lecturers, students, and administrative staff, exchange programmes of students and lecturers, and working meetings.

Within the framework of cooperation between the CIS countries, the Faculty actively participates in the interdisciplinary activities of the Council of Science and Education under the Transport Coordination Session of the CIS, which is aimed at the integration of a unified transport system of the CIS countries.

In the Faculty, the Chairs regularly publish educational-methodical manuals, textbooks, scientific articles, and defend PhD and doctoral theses.

The primary objectives of the Faculty are to strengthen the student’s connection with the University, assist the students with the best academic performance in ensuring employment, which also proves the existing relationship between the Faculty and the employer. The University has signed contracts with various institutions-enterprises, state structures, design and construction LLCs, where students of the Faculty conduct their educational and production internships.

Since the establishment of the Faculty (2014), it has been headed by Valerik M. Harutyunyan (PhD in Technical Sciences, Associate Professor), who was re-elected as Dean for a 5-year term in 2019.

By attaching importance to its responsible role in the process of organizing students’ education and continuously improving the educational services of the Chairs, the Faculty ensures quality of education that meets the requirements of the modern labor market.

In order to maintain the intellectual strength of the Faculty, the academic staff of the Chairs is being updated, young specialists are being recruited, with whom new scientific activities and participation in international scientific conferences and symposia are being carried out.

The Chairs of the Faculty organize various conferences and seminars, in which students actively participate.

The scientific activities of the Chairs of the Faculty are based on the principles of expanded partnership and cooperation with various companies and organizations, which contributes to the future favorable life of people and the solution of issues of great importance. In this regard, research work in the Chairs of the Faculty, with the involvement of students, contributes to the development of knowledge, innovation and creativity, for example, the Chair of Heat and Gas Supply and Ventilation participated in the competition for awarding grants announced by National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia to encourage scientific research work, as well as to ensure the participation of students in their implementation, and became one of the winners.

In order to improve the educational level, new quality, production and expert skills of students, new laboratories are regularly opened in the Chairs under the Faculty, which are furnished with modern equipment and technologies, due to which students get the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice. This is evidenced by the fact that a student of our Faculty was recognized as the winner in the Competition for awarding nominal scholarships to students with the best academic performance in RA educational institutions conducting higher professional academic programmes in the field of Engineering.
