TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS

Taking into account the development prospects of the Republic of Armenia and the “Transport and Trade Facilitation Strategy of Armenia, 2020-2040” and the “National Road Safety Strategy for Armenia, 2023-2033” projects adopted by the Government, the training of relevant specialists is required for the further development of passenger and freight transportation, as well as logistics services.

The training of specialists will ensure an efficient, safe, reliable and competitively priced freight transportation for our country and its trading partners and thus play an important role in transforming Armenia from a landlocked country into one with access to the sea, as well as in the seamless integration with Georgian ports and domestic transport hubs providing both land and water connections.

The interconnection between logistics services and transportation systems is required to be maximized, ultimately allowing online planning and single-transaction payments for any transportation or travel. Enhanced cooperation and connections with regional and global markets and value chains will enable expanded trade and trade-related services.

In order to achieve the highest level of road safety of the Republic of Armenia, the Government of the Republic of Armenia has adopted “Vision Zero” policy, the implementation of which is aimed at the improvement of road safety, prevention of road accidents, conduction of road audits, and training of highly qualified specialists.

Main issues of transportation driven by rapid pace of motorization and requiring the implementation of modern methods for efficient traffic management systems have become a characteristic phenomenon for large cities.

Within the framework of the “Transport and Logistics Systems” academic programme, the Scientific-Research Center for Road Transport Communication and Traffic Safety has been established, furnished with a laboratory room and a mobile laboratory vehicle (Trassa-2 with a PKRS trailer), with modern equipment. The center, by expanding and integrating the research conducted, applying innovations and developing modern technologies to solve problems in the field of road communications, transportation and road safety, is a relevant structure for the effective management of transportation and road safety, with clearly defined responsibilities and is aimed at the formation of the potential that will understand the essence of the problem and develop a strategy based on facts and data.

Training courses on “Road Audit” will be conducted.

Active participation of students in scientific-research studies and experimental research.

Due to a number of inventions by the Chair, devices have been created to assess the level of transportation and traffic safety on roads.
A practical connection has been established with the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure and logistics centers.
A new academic programme has been developed, which includes courses for the implementation of the above-mentioned requirements.

The purpose of the academic programme is to issue specialists who will:

  • have the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to work in the field of the organization of automobile transportation;
  • be able to use the logistics toolkit in the management system of a motor transport enterprise;
  • be able to assess the transport characteristics of cargo during transportation and storage, as well as the rules for handling them and the optimal organizational and technological schemes for transportation;
  • know the structure, operating principles, and theoretical basis of motor transport rolling-stock and be proficient in the technical and operational norms and rules for ensuring the reliability of the operability of automobiles, their nodes, and aggregates;
  • be able to ensure a safe and seamless process of freight and passenger transportation, calculate and select optimal routes of the road network, assess dangerous areas, and manage the transition of traffic flows through intersections and transport hubs;
  • be able to conduct road safety audits;
  • be proficient in the production processes and the principles of modeling, planning, and management of transport flows;
  • be able to use information technology, computer technology, and databases for software, and the processing and use of logistics information in professional activities;
  • be able to develop competitive tariffs in the transportation market to calculate the transportation costs (depreciation allowances, overhead expenses, operational expenses, profit, profitability, etc.).

Graduates of this specialty can work in the following institutions:
