Devastating earthquake of Spitak city in 1998 raised the urgency for the new revision of building norms, earthquake-resistant reliable construction and preparation of high-quality specialists in the fields of architecture and construction. In the context of earthquake lessons a need arose to establish a new higher educational institution, so Yerevan Institute of Architecture and Construction was established in 1989 that was renamed to Yerevan State University of Architecture and Construction in 2000 and has became the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia since 2014 (NUACA).
The new University with all its infrastructure units was established on the basis of Yerevan Polytechnic Institute. Similarly, in 1990 the Chair of Higher Mathematics was established on the basis of Yerevan Polytechnic Institute with its head, doctor of physics and mathematics, professor Aramayis Babloyan. The Chair was represented by professors Sh. Knyazyan, S. Sahakyan, L. Darbinyan, V. Avanyan, G. Vermishyan, V. Edoyan, R. Aleksanyane, N. Asryan, H. Khchoyan, B. Meltonyan, senior lecturer L. Simonyan, assistant professors G. Shahverdyan and N.Avanyan. Academic research and educational activities are performed in the Chair parallel to defense of doctoral theses and academic consultations. Since 2009 the head of Chair has been elected professor, corresponding member of National Academy of Sciences Suren Mkhitaryan. Currently the department employs new faculty members among them N. Grigoryan, H. Kanetsyan, A. Melqonyan, M. Sargsyan, M. Mkrtchyan, S. Avetisian, M. Grigoryan, M. Mkrtchyan and Z. Davtyan.
The Chair has all-University service and its faculty teaches all students (except from students from Design Faculty) modules known as analytic geometry, linear algebra elements, mathematical analysis, differential equations, probability theory, as well as special courses such as mathematical physics equations, complex variables and random processes.
Teaching activities are carried out parallel to research on integral equations and application of integral modifications in the boundary problems of dense environmental mechanics, special functions of mathematical physics, boundary issues of analytic functions. Under professor Mkhitaryans leadership the scientific seminar on “Mathematical Models of Engineering Problems” is launched. Over the last 5 years, the staff of the Chair has published over 50 research papers both in local and foreign scientific journals.
The Chair has designed educational materials, methods for complex topics accessible note-taking, curricula per specialty discussed in ongoing scientific and methodological seminars. As a result, 30 methodical manuals are developed and published by the lecturers of the Chair. Research activities are carried out in the following areas:
- Application Fredholm and singular integral equations in the boundary problem sets of dense environment mechanics,
