GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS)

However, the term GIS is generally used in a more narrow sense: a GIS tool or computer program that allows to explore, modify, and search digital maps, as well as get additional information about the characteristics of objects.

Within the scope of the Geoinformation or Geographical Information Systems (GIS) academic programme at NUACA, students will study modern computer technologies with the capability of data collection, storage, analysis, and graphical rendering. They include database systems, programs for editing raster and vector images, as well as a number of analytical tools.

Geoinformation systems are used in a number of fields: geodesy, cartography, construction, geology, defense, economics, urban management, etc.

According to territorial classification, GIS systems are:

  1. global
  2. continental
  3. national (state)
  4. regional
  5. local
