History

National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia was founded in 1921 as part of the Yerevan People’s University and was named the Technical Faculty. In 1930, the Construction Institute of the Armenian SSR was established, then, in 1933-1989, it was renamed Yerevan Polytechnic Institute, and became a Faculty. In 1989, it was reorganized as Institute of Architecture and Construction, and since 2000 – Yerevan State University of Architecture and Construction. Since 2014, it has been reorganized and become “National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia” Foundation.

National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia is the first of the Armenian universities to receive European Institutional International Accreditation by the French High Council for the Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERS) and the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) of Spain. In 2022, by the decision of the Commision of “National Center for Professional Education Quality Assurance” Foundation, National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia was granted Institutional Accreditation for a period of 6 years. Graduates of the University are awarded with a state diploma, and the diploma of graduates of the Faculty of Architecture is considered equivalent to the French diploma by the decision of the French Government dated December 5, 1994.

In 2007, the Secondary Vocational College after A. Tamanyan became a unit of the University, and now it is called NUACA Secondary Vocational Education College, and in 2011 – University Basic High School after M. Abeghyan.

Since 1927, various specialties, faculties and chairs have been created and reorganized within the University.

Today, NUACA has 5 faculties, 23 chairs, about 27 centers, among which are educational-scientific laboratories and studios furnished with the leading equipment used in the field. The University cooperates with a number of countries, participating in many exchange and training programmes for students and academic staff.

For 100 years of its existence, the Educational Institution of Architecture and Construction has prepared more than 35,000 specialists who have shaped the new lineament of our Homeland.

Since March 2024, Manuk Barseghyan has been the Acting Rector of the University.
